The chicks were supposed to spend their first night in the coop but never made it through the night. The dog kept messing around the coop but couldn't get in. However, she apparently moved the front enough for a feral cat to get in. No more chicks. Not for possessive reasons but nearly makes me cry.
Obviously the coop needs reinforcing. Along with that, think I will lay some traps for the feral cats in the neighborhood. And build a fence to confine the dog from the garden and hutch and coop area. I don't like dog runs, too confining. This dog likes to run and play. Don't know, she seems to be better about staying out of the garden, so may just fence off the hutch/coop area. Can't afford to build it yet, so have time to decide.
Though forecast predicted below freezing last night it never did freeze. Possibly very light frost which was gone with first light but I didn't see it. Still some cool and windy days ahead but temps continue to increase, so early spring is looking quite promising.
Looked up climbing strawberries last night. There are some which make claims of climbing but reviews say they don't actually climb. Some can be trained or tied up a trellis. That's okay. I'll try a couple of those. Mostly try some ever-bearing varieties in the main garden. For the fence, I'll stick with beans and peas for the most part. Going to get that area done in a few minutes.
