Went to orientation at the new job today. The part in house didn't take long, just a couple of hours. Part will take place on paper or cd-rom but we still get paid for it, so we get a total of 8 hours for orientation.

Tomorrow, have to go back for 8 hours of wound care training.

Got back home by 1 PM.

Decided to use tarps for the rest of the awnings. Easier, inexpensive, go up quickly and safer should the winds get too strong. I had used tarps last year but attached them directly to the house and stakes. They got torn apart by the winds. This time, decided to basically suspend the tarps on ropes and tie the ropes between the roof and stakes in the ground. That removes most of the direct tension on the tarps. Leaving a space at the top, between the house and the tarp allows heat to escape, even if the solar chimney effect doesn't work well.

Got a number of them hung up today. Still need to hang a couple more. Maybe Fri. As it is, the tarps provide shade to much of the outer walls of the house in addition to the windows. Made some difference today. Maybe not as much as it will in the future because it was late in the day before I got done, so the house had already heated up. Still, the difference could be felt. Makes an even bigger difference since I have the awnings outside and curtains inside.

I focused on the most used and open parts of the house. The office and my daughter's room can be closed off most of the time.

In a few weeks, going to install at least one wind turbine on the roof. Turbine itself isn't expensive, less than $40. However, other parts and equipment are necessary for the installation.

Need a bath. Being on the roof was really hot.
